Grab a new book or an old favorite and get ready to read! The Cherry Creek School District will celebrate the joy of reading during Cherry Creek Reads, coming up March 9-13. Across our district, students, parents, teachers, staff, friends and family members are encouraged to read for 67 minutes or more during Cherry Creek Reads. That represents one minute for every Cherry Creek school. The goal is simple: to create a community of readers and foster a lifelong love of reading. The theme for the week is “Read Together, Change Lives Together,” and is based on the inspirational book Because by Mo Willems, a New York Times bestselling author and illustrator. Because takes readers on a journey of self-discovery, with the realization of how one small event can change your life forever and make one wonder…. What’s my Because? Enjoy this short video about the story behind the story of Because. Then get ready to read! During Cherry Creek Reads, CCSD schools will hold a variety of special events, from guest readers to Skype sessions with noted authors and illustrators to family literacy nights. Parents are also encouraged to read with their children after school and have fun dinner table-discussions about the books each family member is reading. On the morning of November 5th, we will have our annual Veterans Day Celebration at the school! This event starts with a breakfast for our honored guests and ends with an all-school assembly. If you know a veteran, or someone who is currently serving, please invite them to this event. Though we would love for the entire school community to attend, we have to ask that only our veterans/those currently serving, and their families, come to the event. We will not have enough room for additional individuals.
